| The Golden Age of Mambo |
| Tito Rodriguez, Machito & Tito Puente during the Mambo Golden Age 50s & 60s |
Trivia - The Golden Age of Mambo: Did you know that there were three major artists that were responsible for combining traditional big bands with latin bands. They were Machito (with Mario Bauza), Tito Rodriguez, and Tito Puente.
Although Machito, as the eldest of the three, was one of the first to combine a big band with cuban rythms, both Tito's had an incredible influence in creating the Golden Age of Mambo during the 50s and 60s due to their relentless rivalry at the famous Palladium club in NYC which closed its doors in 1966 thereby ending the Age of Mambo.
This July 4th, from 11AM-12:30pm, watch the Parade from the comfort of your lawn chairs along Midland Ave, between Portland and Montague streets. You will not only enjoy the Parade but you will also hear the sounds from the Golden Age of Mambo with John Acevedo's 23 Piece Latin Big Band, AfroCuba, playing from his porch. This will be a real treat in honor of Montclair's 150th anniversary and to raise donations to the Kessler Foundation which was instrumental in my wife's recovery from Stage III brain cancer back in 2013.
Join the party at his address, 31 Midland Ave, Montclair NJ 07042, as the ticket to entry is a potluck for those you bring or invite. Party goes on to 8PM with at least 5 different bands playing from latin big band (big band plays from 11AM-12:30pm), to R&B/Funk, to Jazz, to Fusino, to even an Ecuadorian Band - Compas. Facebook invite for RSVP is here. Donations will go to the Kessler Foundation.
